About the Knights of Rizal

The Knights of Rizal is an Order of Chivalry from the Philippines, created to honor and uphold the ideals of Philippine national hero José Rizal. The civic organisation of the “Order of the Knights of Rizal”, original Spanish name “Orden de Caballeros de Rizál”, was established in 1911 by Colonel Antonio C. Torres, who later served as the first Filipino chief of police of Manila. The Order was granted a legislative charter by President Elpidio Quirino as a non-sectarian, non-partisan, civic, patriotic, and cultural organization under Republic Act 646 on June 14, 1951. Although not a state order, it is the one order of knighthood in the Philippines officially recognized and endorsed by an official act of the national government, and

its awards and titles are recognized by the Honors code of the Philippines as official awards of the Republic. The Order is often worn by members of the Philippine government and diplomatic corps. The insignia of the Order of the Knights of Rizal is ranked seventh in the Order of Wear pursuant to the Implementing Rules and Regulations of the Honors Code of the Philippines. Since its founding, the Order has grown to more than 25,000 members belonging to 131 active chapters in the Philippines and 61 active chapters around the world. Its international headquarters is located on Bonifacio Drive in Port Area, Manila.

About the World Brothers Chapter

The World Brothers Chapter was officially formed on the 10th of November 2018 at the International Headquarters of the Order of the Knights of Rizal in Manila. Since then, many Knights have been formally inducted in several investiture knighthood ceremonies including numerous overseas members. In fact, 98% of the Knights inducted are from overseas, representing regions such as Europe, the UK, the United States of America, Australia, Cambodia, the Philippines, Macau, Hong Kong and mainland China

The chapter aims to carry on the tradition and proudly propagate Dr Jose Rizal’s teachings of nonviolence through peaceful means using a fountain pen instead of a sword to achieve his ideals through negotiation, literature, and passion. The chapter also engages in many charity events, peace building missions and regularly meets to preserve and promote the true value of Dr Rizal’s advocacy for internationalism. An inclusive approach that seeks to break down geographic barriers related to creed and religion as part of the oldest knighthood in Asia.

The official coat of arms of the World Brothers Chapter was beautifully designed with parchment paper and carefully explains its true meaning, reflecting the ideals of knighthood and the mission to carry the torch of Dr Jose Rizal, the national hero of the Philippines to spread his teachings across the world. The coat of arms was approved by the former Supreme Commander of the Order of the Knights of Rizal, Justice Sir Elihu Ibanez during the European conference held at Baden Powell House, a conference hall located in South Kensington, London. The very first coat of arms is now being displayed at the headquarters in Manila.

The World Brothers Chapter is closely linked with the Sino-Phil Asia International Peace Awards Foundation Inc; our founding Chapter Commander Sir Billy Chan, KGOR, DSM, DSS, LTM is the Chairman of the Board and Co-founder.
